Edu & Kate Slow Living is a home cooking blog based in Barcelona, created by Eduard Llovet and Ekaterina Kuleshova. We started sharing recipe videos in 2025 and launched this blog in 2026 ✨
We love learning to make the things we used to buy: yogurt, ice cream, snacks, and our own sourdough bread.
We both grew up watching our families prepare food from scratch, thousands of miles apart. Then came university and careers in technology. Today, we’re bringing some of those childhood lessons back into our lives and learning plenty of new things together in the kitchen 🧑🍳
Edu: from the family food shop to our kitchen
In 1948, my maternal grandparents opened Xarcuteria Formatgeria HOM in Barcelona. It was a neighborhood delicatessen specializing in cheeses, charcuterie, and prepared food to take home. It stayed in the family for three generations and 72 years, until it closed during the lockdown in 2020.
I helped my mother behind the counter from a very young age, so I learned two things at once: how to cook and how to look after the person who would be eating the food. Both are still at the heart of what I do today.
I graduated in Multimedia from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC – CITM). Since 2003, I’ve worked in design and digital product management in tech including InfoJobs, eDreams and Doctoralia. Along the way, I co-founded Nautal, which became Spain’s leading boat rental platform within a few years.
What I bring from that experience into this blog is the habit of listening, testing, and improving. When we write a recipe, we want someone who has never made it before to understand every step. When you tell us where you got stuck, you help us explain it better.
My mother recently died of cancer. She was the person who taught me so much behind that shop counter 🤍
Losing her changed the way I think about everyday things: what we eat, how we rest, how much we move, and how much time we spend looking at screens. I’m not a doctor. What I share here is our experience in the kitchen and the changes we’re trying to make in our own lives. That wish to take better care of ourselves is one of the most personal reasons behind this project.
Kate: from Siberia to Barcelona
I was born in Siberia and grew up surrounded by mountains, rivers, and snow ⛄️.
At my grandparents’ house, the milk came from their own cows. That same milk was also used to make butter, cheese and cream. There were chickens and turkeys. Vegetables came from the garden, and whatever we didn’t eat was preserved for winter. Almost everything I ate was homemade, quite literally.
None of this was a philosophy or a trend. It was simply how people lived.
I studied Business Administration at Saint Petersburg State University and later completed a master’s degree at Esade. Exchange programs during my studies took me to Mexico and Colombia, where I learned Spanish. After finishing my master’s, I decided to stay in Barcelona. Here, I also learned Catalan, bringing the languages I speak to four: Russian, English, Spanish, and Catalan.
When I make yogurt or preserves at home now, I think of what I watched my grandparents do. I still have plenty to learn, but it makes me happy to bring those traditions into our lives, share them with others, and let our daughter discover them too.
How we got here
We met while working together at Doctoralia. Edu has been working in tech since 2003, and Kate since 2015.
Over time, we discovered how much we had in common. We had both grown up around our families’ cooking, loved good food, and wanted to learn to make more things ourselves.
We also share a very everyday motivation: feeding our family. Edu has four children, and our daughter together is the youngest. When we think about a recipe, we want it to fit into other families’ lives too: something delicious, with clear instructions, that you can realistically make alongside everything else your day brings.
That’s where Edu & Kate Slow Living comes from. Our stories, everything we’re learning, and the excitement of building something together that encourages more people to enjoy cooking at home.
What slow living means to us
For us, it starts with something simple: paying more attention to what we eat and enjoying making it. Learning to make our own yogurt, trying a fruit ice cream recipe, or discovering that we can make a favorite store-bought snack at home.
Whenever we can, we choose organic ingredients 🌱. We like knowing what we’re using and deciding what goes into each recipe. One of our favorite challenges is making homemade versions of supermarket products with long ingredient lists, using what we need to make something that works and tastes good.
We’re also looking for a life with less rushing, more time in nature, and more time making things with our hands. After years of working in front of screens, we’re still figuring out that balance ourselves.
We’re curious about the stories and habits associated with the so-called Blue Zones. They get us thinking about how we eat, move, and spend time with others, and about small changes we can keep up in everyday life.
If you’re a parent wondering what to make for your children, we hope you’ll find some new family favorites here. And when the recipe and their age allow, invite them to join you in the kitchen. It can be a lovely way to spend time together and discover how the food on their plates is made 😊.
How we develop and test our recipes
Kate finds recipes, suggests ideas, and works on adaptations. We prepare and taste them together, then decide whether they’re ready to share or need another round of adjustments.
Some recipes take more attempts than others. Our sourdough bread went through around 50 tests before we published the version that worked best for us 😅.
We film together, too. If you hear a voice in our videos, it’s Edu, who also looks after the blog, YouTube, and TikTok. Kate runs Instagram and Facebook.
We give precise ingredient quantities to help you recreate our recipes. We use a kitchen scale ourselves, especially for baking. Ingredients, equipment, and kitchen conditions can all affect the result, so we also explain the textures and visual cues to look for along the way.
And when you write to us, we’re the ones reading and replying. We answer every comment personally. If a recipe doesn’t turn out as you hoped, tell us what happened and we’ll try to figure it out together. We love knowing that you’re cooking along with us, even from another kitchen 🤗.
Where to start
If this is your first visit, here are four recipes to try 😉.
Our apple marshmallows are one of the recipes people discover us through: just apples and gelatin, whipped into soft, airy bites.
For breakfast, try our fluffy pancakes without baking powder, made with everyday ingredients and whipped egg whites.
Our homemade Greek yogurt brings us back to the food Kate grew up watching her grandparents make. You only need milk and yogurt to get started.
And for dessert, our frozen fruit ice cream is a way to experiment with the fruit you have in your freezer.
When you try a recipe, we’d love to hear how it went. Your questions and experiences help us improve the instructions for the next person who makes it ❤️.
One last thing: Kate dreams of living on a farm and having a cow. Edu is mainly wondering who’s going to shovel the manure.
While we work that out, you’ll find us in the kitchen 🐄.
